Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of the company that owns WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, announced that a revolution is coming to the technological world.
Meta launched augmented reality glasses that are intended to replace smartphones. Due to their capacity and portability, these lenses promise to transform the interaction between users, both in terms of visual and auditory reality.
Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said in an interview with Forbes magazine that smartphones will be obsolete in the next few years. The tycoon pointed out that cell phones have stopped evolving. “In 10 years, many people will no longer carry their phones with them, they will use their glasses for everything.”
The technological race has already begun: other companies such as Apple and Google are also investing in this sector, with Google Glass as one of the most notable bets to integrate augmented reality into the daily lives of its users.
Why will smart glasses replace these devices?
Smart glasses will replace smartphones because they will allow us to answer calls, listen to music, browse the Internet or capture photos and videos, all without having to take our phone out of our pocket.
The main advantage of smart glasses, according to Zuckerberg, is their ability to naturally integrate into everyday life without the distraction of a screen. Instead of constantly interacting with a phone, users can access information through augmented reality, with voice commands and gesture control.
The Disadvantages of Smart Glasses
Today, these devices still have significant limitations compared to smartphones. One of the main differences lies in processing capacity: mobile phones have much more powerful CPUs, allowing them to run multiple demanding applications simultaneously, from video games to video editing tools or advanced artificial intelligence.
Smart glasses are designed for more specific tasks, such as displaying notifications, responding to voice commands or capturing images, but their computing power is considerably lower.
