The Trump administration launches the CBP Home app for undocumented immigrants to self-report their departure from the U.S.

On March 10, the government of US President Donald Trump announced the relaunch of the ‘CBP Home’ application for irregular immigrants.

The platform’s function is for undocumented people to notify their intention to self-deport. The administration of the re-elected president promoted this measure as part of its strategy to tighten immigration policies, which has triggered a variety of reactions.

The new application replaced ‘CBP One’, created in 2020 and used during the Joe Biden administration for asylum-seeking migrants to request an appointment to present their cases to the US authorities.

Now, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ‘CPB Home’ is designed for undocumented immigrants to notify their plans to voluntarily leave the country. This decision would give them the opportunity to return legally in the future and “live the American dream.”

“Self-deportation is the safest option for undocumented immigrants,” DHS said in a statement.

He added: “Not only is it safer, it also saves American taxpayers money and allows valuable Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) resources to focus on dangerous criminal immigrants.” CBP Home also has a feature for foreign nationals who have left the country to present documents to verify their departure.

In order for people to access the application, they will need to fill out biographical information, including their countries of citizenship, followed by the country they plan to return to, foreign registration numbers, contact information, and they can upload photos of themselves to confirm their identity.

After the undocumented person has completed the previous process, everything will be sent to the CBP and the immigrants will leave the country.

CPE Home replaces CPE One

The Trump administration decided in February to indefinitely freeze immigration applications from people who arrived in the country through “humanitarian parole” programs, a permit that allowed certain foreigners to enter the United States for humanitarian reasons or for public benefit. This resource was promoted by his predecessor, Joe Biden, and benefited hundreds of thousands of people.

“The Biden Administration abused the CBP One app to allow more than a million immigrants to illegally enter the United States.

With the launch of the CBP Home app, we are restoring the integrity of our immigration system,” said DHS Secretary Kristi Noem. According to CBP data, between 40,000 and 50,000 migrants entered the United States each month through the CBP One app during the Biden administration, totaling nearly one million by the end of his presidency.

“The CBP Home app gives immigrants the option to leave now and self-deport, which would give them the opportunity to legally return in the future and live the American dream. If they don’t, we will find them, deport them, and they will never be able to return, ” he added.
