The biggest comic book franchises in the world, Marvel and DC, will unite their worlds for the first time in 20 years with the comic “Deadpool/Batman #1,” due out in September.
The project was confirmed by Marvel on Monday, despite the fact that in February the editors-in-chief of both franchises revealed they were preparing a crossover (collaboration).
“It’s the crossover you never expected but always wanted! Deadpool and Batman cross swords and batarangs as Marvel and DC unite for the first time in decades! Wade Wilson has been hired for a job in Gotham City, but will the World’s Greatest Detective help him or destroy him?” reads the caption posted on Marvel’s official website.
The last official collaboration between the two brands was JLA/Avengers, published between 2003 and 2004.
This was not the first merger between Marvel and DC in a comic; in 1976, both decided to bring together their flagship heroes of the time, Superman and Spider-Man, in Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century.
The comic was written by Gerry Conway, illustrated by Ross Andru, and covered by Carmine Infantino and Neal Adams.
This new crossover, which will feature Batman and Deadpool, will be written by Zeb Wells, the Spider-Man comic book writer and co-writer of Marvel Studios’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ and the drawings will be in charge of Greg Capullo, who has worked for years on the Batman and X-Men franchises.
