With nearly 2.5 billion users, more than a third of the world’s population, WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app.
A number of variables underpin this leadership, starting with Meta’s support. Mark Zuckerberg’s powerful conglomerate has guided this service since acquiring it more than a decade ago.
Another key to success is constant updates. This communication tool regularly adds features, and every week we learn about new features that are tested in beta versions.
Recent reports confirm this ongoing WhatsApp overhaul, which is testing a couple of interesting and striking features. Below are the changes:
Save Statuses on WhatsApp
The messaging app has a section similar to Instagram Stories. The reference is to statuses, posts that have their own section and disappear after 24 hours. Although content is ephemeral by nature, WhatsApp will allow you to store it.
The WABetaInfo site, a go-to source for those interested in learning about WhatsApp updates before releases, reported that version 2.25.7.8 includes a feature that allows you to store photos and videos from status updates in your gallery (locally). A relevant detail: this isn’t possible with posts from contacts, but only with your own.
New organization in the talks
Chats on this messenger can sometimes be confusing, especially in groups with many participants. In Creole: chats sometimes go off on a tangent. Also in a beta version, testers can already test a feature that organizes messages into threads.
What changes in practice? The feature allows you to track replies to a specific message in a thread, eliminating distractions. Replies are grouped below the original message, making it easier to follow and maintain consistency in conversations.
Also discovered and revealed by WABetaInfo, it will be implemented in one-on-one and group chats, where it will be particularly useful. “With this feature, instead of scrolling through a long list of individual replies, users will be able to follow and view all related responses in a dedicated thread, keeping the conversation structured and easy to follow,” explains the source. Furthermore, it highlights what was already mentioned regarding beta versions: after testing, a rollout is expected for all users on the various versions of WhatsApp.
